Moved by Councillor Arkins, seconded by Councillor Kok –

It is resolved that:

(A)      Council note:

(i)         the NSW Labor Government’s $6.6 Billion Building Homes for NSW package is delivering the first new public housing stock in over a decade;

(ii)        this is the largest investment by the NSW Government into social housing in the state’s history, delivering over 8,000 new public homes;

(iii)      the funding is delivering new social housing properties, improving maintenance of existing public housing and boosts homelessness support services;

(iv)      it invests in new homes for women and children escaping domestic violence, Aboriginal people and their families, older Australians, those living with disability and young people without family support; and

(v)       construction has started on new public housing at 82 Wentworth Park Road in Glebe;

(B)      Council support:

(i)         increased investment in public housing by the NSW Labor Government in the City of Sydney Local Government Area; and

(ii)         the first increase in the total number of public housing dwellings in a decade; and

(C)      the Lord Mayor be requested to write to Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Housing Rose Jackson welcoming increased investment in new public housing in our City and the delivery of more public housing in Glebe.
