Recommendation

It is recommended that the Forum review the following reallocation of parking in Sims Street, Darlinghurst as “No Parking, 6am–6pm Thursday” and “1P 6pm–2am Thursday, 8am–2am, Permit Holders Excepted Area 15, All Other Days.

·                On the northern side of Sims Street between the points 33.4m and 44m (two parking spaces) east of Chisholm Street;

·                On the eastern side of Sims Street between the points 30.3 and 41.5 (one parking space), north of Hannam Street; and

·                On the eastern side of Sims Streets between the points 6.3m and 14.4m (one parking space), north of Hannam Street.

Advice

The Forum agreed to defer this item pending further investigation regarding:

·         The size of waste collection trucks and whether there is capacity in the fleet to use a smaller vehicle to service this area.

·         Whether the window of 12 hours for the times of collection can be reasonably reduced, while still allowing enough flexibility for rubbish collection to occur.

Staff advised that the proposal was initiated as a result to damages to waste collection vehicles, parked vehicles, residential properties and garden bed.

Background

To improve access for waste collection vehicles in Sims Street on waste collection days, it is proposed to reallocate the permit parking spaces in the street to “No Parking 6am-6pm Thursdays”. The proposal would allow waste collection vehicles to access the street in a safe and efficient manner.
