Moved by Councillor Ellsmore, seconded by Councillor Thompson –

It is resolved that:

(A)       Council note:

(i)         the NSW Government’s “Waterloo South Renewal Project” involves the redevelopment of one of Australia’s largest and most significant public housing estates;

(ii)        of the proposed homes, 50% is to be allocated for social and affordable housing, to be managed by Community Housing Providers;

(iii)       the social housing is to be managed by Link Wentworth and Birribee Housing, with the NSW Government retaining ownership of the buildings. The affordable housing is to be managed by City West Housing. It has not been confirmed whether this housing will be affordable in the long term (i.e. in perpetuity); and

(iv)       the City of Sydney Council have consistently and strongly advocated that any affordable housing delivered must be genuinely affordable and must be in perpetuity; and

(B)       the Lord Mayor be requested to write to the NSW Minister for Housing Rose Jackson, and the NSW Minister of Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully, seeking confirmation that both the social and affordable housing in Waterloo South will be maintained in perpetuity.
