Moved by Councillor Gannon, seconded by Councillor Ellsmore -

It is resolved that:

(A)       Council note:

(i)         Glebe Public School has a Crossing Supervisor for the Glebe Point Road pedestrian crossing for its 318 students. This arrangement is in place during school days;

(ii)        the Glebe Markets attracts many thousands of visitors each Saturday, with many more children attending the markets than regularly attend the school;

(iii)       to improve pedestrian safety, the City previously installed 3 raised pedestrian crossings near the entrance to the markets on Glebe Point Road, and 2 crossings near the Derwent Street entrance; and

(iv)       as the markets are held at Glebe Public School, the operating requirements are determined by the Department of Education; and

(B)       the Lord Mayor be requested to write to the Minister for Education:

(i)         requesting that pedestrian safety and traffic management on Glebe Point Road during the weekend markets be investigated;

(ii)        asking her to confirm if a Crossing Supervisor is employed during the markets operation as part of the operating requirements / traffic management plan determined by the Department of Education; and

(iii)       asking her to ensure operating requirements include a comprehensive and appropriate traffic management plan.
