It is recommended that the Forum review changing the existing Give Way control at the intersection of Bennett Place and Fanny Place, Surry Hills to a Stop control.

·         Investigate the feasibility of installing additional STOP signs in Bennett Place.

·         Assess existing Shared Zone signs and line markings and refresh if required.

·         Investigate installation of “Give Way to Pedestrians” line markings in Bennett Place, if feasible.

Background

A resident has raised concerns regarding safety and sight lines at the intersection of Bennett Place and Fanny Place, Surry Hills. It has been observed that motorists frequently travel through the intersection without adequately slowing or giving way, resulting in several near‑miss incidents and an increased risk of crashes.

In response to these concerns, the City is considering changing the controls at the intersection from a Give Way control to Stop control intersection to ensure drivers stop at the intersection before proceeding. It is expected that the change would improve safety and reduce the incidence of near misses and risk of crashes.
