Background
The City has recently completed and opened a section of George Julius Avenue, Zetland, north of Peters Street as part of the Gunyama Park Stage 2 project. The area includes community and recreational facilities, including the Gunyama Park playing fields, Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre, and the newly opened Gunyama Park playground. These facilities attract a high number of visitors who access the area by walking, cycling, public transport and private vehicle.
The kerbside parking along the western side of George Julius Avenue directly fronts the newly opened playground. While this section of George Julius Avenue is now open to traffic, the northern end of the road currently terminates in a temporary no-through-road arrangement. The road is planned to be extended and connected to the future northern Zetland precinct as subsequent stages of development are completed.
Following the opening of George Julius Avenue adjacent to the playground, parking restrictions are required to support the efficient use of available kerbside parking and to encourage turnover for visitors to the recreational facilities. As parking along Zetland Avenue adjacent to the Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre is currently regulated as ticket parking, it is proposed to introduce "2P Ticket 8am-10pm" parking restrictions on George Julius Avenue along the playground frontage. The proposed restrictions will provide a consistent parking management approach within the precinct, promote compliance, and ensure parking spaces remain available for visitors accessing the park and surrounding community facilities.
