It is resolved that:
(A)
Council
note that Ultimo library:
(i)
opened
in 1996, marking its 30th anniversary with a community open day on 20 June 2026
(ii)
provides
an important free, accessible, public third space for the Ultimo and Pyrmont
communities
(iii)
hosts
community programming, such as the popular Rhymetime, and access to the City’s
extensive collection of books, newspapers and magazines
(iv)
will serve
as an important space to cool down in the coming summer months as the City
experiences another El Nino weather event
(B)
Council
further note Ultimo Village Voice:
(i)
has
been campaigning for the Ultimo Library to be reopened for 4 hours every
Saturday since its operating hours were reduced following the Covid-19 lockdown
in 2020
(ii)
wrote
to Councillors and City staff on 12 July 2026 requesting an extension of Ultimo
Library operating hours
(C)
the
Chief Executive Officer be requested to:
(i)
investigate
opening the Ultimo library on weekends for a minimum of 4 hours every Saturday
(ongoing) for Council's consideration as part of the preparation of the 2027/28
Operational Plan
(ii)
report
back to Council on the progress of this plan.
