Moved by Councillor Ellsmore, seconded by Councillor
Arkins -
It is resolved that:
(A) Council note that:
(i)
Council is strongly committed to reducing waste and
increase recycling, having set key strong targets for waste reduction across
Council documents including the Sydney 2050
(ii)
Council provides a wide range of programs and
places to recycle tricky household items, including those that can’t go in the
regular red, yellow or green bins
(iii) Council has door stop recycling
and booked rubbish collection services for residents. Members of the public can
also report illegal dumping to council on the streets or public places to
arrange a pickup
(iv) Council regularly reviews its
waste services and programs, and continues to grow the number of places and
items that residents can drop off tricky household items
(B) Council further notes that:
(i)
the Ultimo Recycling Pop Up is open at the Council
depot Tuesdays, 2pm to 7pm
(ii)
residents must visit within these hours to drop
things off
(iii) Council runs “Recycle it Saturday”
and the “Household Chemical CleanOut” days every 6
months. These are held on a Saturday as this is the day when it is a convenient
day for residents to drop off hard to recycle or to dispose of items
(C) Council agree to review the hours
that the Ultimo Recycling Pop Up is open, with a view to opening it one or both
days of the weekend
(D) the Chief Executive
Officer be requested to investigate the extension of the Ultimo Recycling Pop Up
opening hours for Council's consideration as part of the preparation of the
2027/28 Operational Plan.
Carried unanimously.
